most frequently asked questions

How does this whole process work?

Well, it starts with you. Obvious answer, right? Not to everyone. I wholeheartedly believe that you are my greatest asset. Every project begins with a simple discussion about you. We talk about your business, your objectives, your goals, needs, expectations... I like to get a feel for what you're hoping to accomplish with the project, what you're hoping to find in voice, style, and content. When we do decide to work together, I also ask that you provide me with any pertinent materials related to the project. It's a great supplement and background to the research I do before ever writing a word.

Where are you located?

Currently, I reside in the Twin Cities area. But due to the magic of the internet, proximity is no longer an obstacle. You just won't get to see my bright, shiny face every, single day.

How do I get in contact with you?

Send me an email:
write@danaseverson.com.  You can normally reach me Monday - Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm CT. Then we can plan a time to talk. Or you can call me at 612.669.9305 (but your best bet is email).

How can you help me if you don't know my business?

I can't. Okay, I can. I just need to do some research. That's why it's always helpful to have any materials relevant to the project at hand. It gives me a great place to begin. I do, however, spend time researching so there's knowledge behind what I write. But having stuff from you is great too. Remember, you're my greatest asset.

What are your fees?

Typically, my quotes are determined on a project-by-project basis. I do, however, have an hourly rate that is used to establish this flat fee. As a result, I am more than willing, if the project requires, to work at an hourly wage. And for those non-profit organizations out there, I offer a reduced rate. Don't get any ideas about pretending to be one. Yeah, it's happened...

Are there any up front fees?

I do ask for a small deposit before starting any project. Normally, it's around 25% of the quote. If other arrangements are needed, I'm open to discussion. The remaining balance is due upon full completion of the project.

Are there any additional fees?

I'm not in the business of "nickel and diming" people to death. You'll never receive a random invoice for some mysterious charge we've by no means discussed. However, if there are changes in the parameters of a project, a new quote may be in order.

Is there a contract?

I like to consider it more of a mutual agreement. It's difficult to play around with a contract when someone needs something on the fly. So when we decide on the terms of our work together, I just ask that it's outlined in writing. An exchange of emails is the fastest. This will ensure that we're both on the same page.

You're a dude?

Yeah, I get that a lot. It comes with the name. When I was born, it was just switching in popularity. My teen years were interesting, to say the least. One year, I showed up at camp to find myself in a bunk filled with girls. But my all-time favorite is when I pay by credit card, and the cashier asks if Dana is here. Wait a second, that's a bit more embarrassing for me.
